Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Amy Diaz at the Government Administration. The government’s press service released information about the meeting.
This was the first meeting between Kobakhidze and Diaz.
“I once again reaffirmed the Georgian Government’s readiness to restore the strategic partnership with the United States from a clean slate, based on a concrete roadmap focused on our mutual national interests,” Kobakhidze said.
Amy Diaz has served as U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia since July 2026. She has extensive diplomatic experience and joined the U.S. Department of State in 2002.
The last U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan, announced her departure from the post in June last year due to her retirement.
U.S.-Georgia strategic partnership was suspended by the United States on November 30, 2024. Relations with the strategic partner deteriorated after the Georgian Dream government adopted the “agents law” despite calls to withdraw it, while police used force to disperse demonstrations.
In response, the United States imposed sanctions on members of the ruling Georgian Dream party, members of Parliament, law enforcement officials and private individuals. The sanctions began in June 2024 and continued in the following months, targeting more than 100 people in total.
