North Macedonia and Serbia have signed a contract for the design and construction of a gas interconnector.
According to Report’s Balkan bureau, citing North Macedonia’s Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, the document was signed by Nedim Rama, director of NOMAGAS, and the director of Rapid Bild, the selected contractor.
The signing ceremony was attended by North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources Sanja Bojinovska.
According to reports, the project will provide North Macedonia with a new gas route to Europe.
The interconnector, with a total length of about 70 km, will link the gas systems of North Macedonia and Serbia. About 23 km of the pipeline will run through North Macedonia, and 47 km through Serbia. In North Macedonia, the interconnector will be connected to the existing gas pipeline near Kletovce, and in Serbia, to the gas network near Vranje.
“Today we are laying the infrastructural foundation for a new energy link between Skopje, the region, and Europe. Thanks to the interconnector with Serbia, we will gain access to new gas sources, enhance the security of our gas supply, and create the conditions for North Macedonia to play a stronger role in the regional gas system,” stated S. Bojinovska.
