Astana will host a meeting of Security Council Secretaries of SCO member states

The 19th meeting of the Security Council secretaries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states will be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Aibek Smadiarov spoke at a briefing, Trend reported on Monday.

“The 19th meeting of the secretaries of the Security Council of the SCO member states will be held in Astana on 2-3 April 2024. This meeting will be chaired by Kazakhstan. For the first time, Iran will participate in the meeting as a full-fledged SCO member state. SCO observer countries Mongolia and Belarus have also been invited as guests,” Smadiarov said.

According to Smadyarov, within the framework of this meeting, it is planned to exchange views on topical international issues in the SCO area of responsibility, including the joint fight against the “forces of three evils” (terrorism, separatism, extremism), illegal trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances, transnational organised crime and cooperation on international information security, as well as further cooperation within the framework of multilateral associations such as the UN, the CICA, the CSTO.

“Following the event, it is planned to sign the Protocol on the Meeting of Secretaries of the Security Council of the SCO member states, which will reflect the common approach of the member states towards further development of multilateral partnership in regional and international security issues,” Smadiarov said.
