First Political Consultations Between Azerbaijan and Canada Held in Baku

The first political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Canada were held in Baku on June 10. According to a statement made by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to Trend, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Esmira Caferova, Head of the Department responsible for American countries, while the Canadian delegation was led by Andreas Weichert, Executive Director of the Eastern Europe and Eurasia Department of the Canadian Foreign Ministry.

During the consultations, the prospects for developing political relations between the two countries were discussed, and attention was drawn to the importance of mutual visits and contacts within the framework of international events in terms of promoting continuous political dialogue. The need to avoid steps that could lead to tension in bilateral relations was emphasized. In the context of economic cooperation, issues such as increasing bilateral trade volume and implementing joint projects in areas such as energy, transportation, and high technology were discussed. In addition, Azerbaijan’s successful cooperation with Canada within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was praised. Azerbaijan’s leading role in strategic projects in areas such as energy, transportation, and logistics was emphasized. The meeting also noted that cooperation in education, culture, and tourism would contribute to strengthening relations between the two peoples.
