US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the following, the Report reported with reference to TASS.
‘Yes, that’s right,’ he said at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee when asked whether media reports that US troops would leave Niger by 15 September were true.
The Secretary of State said that the US side intends to monitor the process of withdrawal of its soldiers and officers from Niger in order, among other things, to prevent US weapons from falling into the hands of Russian military advisers arriving in this African country.
In March, Niger cancelled its military agreement with the United States, which provided for the establishment of a US drone base in the north of the African country. The republic’s authorities stated that the agreement was imposed and was not in the interests of the people. At the end of 2023, there were about 1,100 US military personnel in Niger, most of them at the air force base near Agadez.
