China and Switzerland have agreed to advocate free trade, boost bilateral communication and accelerate talks on updating the free trade agreement at a time of global challenges.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with President of the Swiss Confederation Karin Keller-Sutter and Vice President of the Swiss Federal Council Guy Parmelin in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday. During the meeting, He Lifeng conveyed greetings from the Chinese leaders and presented a letter signed by Chinese Premier Li Qiang. Speaking on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, He emphasized that relations between the two countries have become increasingly mature and stable thanks to strategic guidance. He said the economies of the two countries are complementary, and significant achievements have been made in trade and investment. Noting that today’s international environment is complex and challenging, He said China and Switzerland should strengthen communication, build a common understanding and jointly find solutions to global challenges. The Chinese Vice Premier also called for adhering to the principles of free trade and open market, accelerating negotiations on the update of the free trade agreement and making concrete progress in this process.
