Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian announced that the upcoming high-level economic and trade meeting between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will take place at the request of the US side.
Speaking at a regular press conference on Wednesday, Lin emphasized that China is firmly opposed to the arbitrary imposition of tariffs by the United States and that its position on this issue has not changed. “China is open to dialogue, but any dialogue should be conducted on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit,” Lin said, adding that pressure and coercion will have no effect on China. China will resolutely safeguard its legitimate interests and continue to uphold international justice and fairness, Lin said. The core elements of China’s economy, such as solid fundamentals, all-round advantages, strong resilience and broad potential, will not be affected by external shocks, he said, adding that the country will maintain its high-quality development momentum.
