The European Union (EU) has decided to lift economic sanctions against Syria. The decision was announced by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on the social media platform X on Tuesday.
“Today, we have decided to lift economic sanctions against Syria,” Kallas said, adding, ”We want to help the Syrian people rebuild an inclusive and peaceful Syria.” The decision follows a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. The decision to lift sanctions follows last week’s announcement by US President Donald Trump to end US sanctions against Syria. The EU’s move is seen as a sign of increased international support for Syria’s reconstruction process after years of conflict. The decision is expected to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people and contribute to the country’s economic recovery.
