Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Russia have signed a roadmap on the simultaneous development of the potential of the eastern route of the ‘North-South’ international transport corridor for 2024-2025.

The relevant document was signed on the margins of the first transport trade and export forum ‘North-South’ held in Aktau, Trend reported on Friday.

The implementation of this document by 2027 will increase the capacity of the corridor to 15 million tonnes per year and 20 million tonnes by 2030.

‘Kazakhstan intends to continue to actively participate in the development of the eastern branch of the North-South ITC, which has the highest potential for the growth of cargo flows by 2030 and looks the safest for the shortest transit to the Indian Ocean. Therefore, it is necessary to start the practical implementation of the road map signed today on the simultaneous development of the potential of the eastern route of the ITC ‘North-South’ passing through the territory of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran’.

It should be noted that the forum was attended by more than 440 participants from 12 countries, representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organisation and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The forum serves as a platform for discussion of topical issues of development of railways and roads, as well as ports with the participation of the main players of the ‘North-South’ transport corridor.
