The Hungarian government is reassessing its country’s role in NATO because it does not want to participate in the alliance’s military mission in Ukraine.

This statement was made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the morning programme of the Kossuth radio station, the Report reported, citing TASS.

Orban reiterated that Hungary does not intend to take part in Nato actions that could directly involve the bloc countries in the conflict in Ukraine and lead to a direct confrontation with Russia. He said that military planning was underway in Brussels and that ‘working groups are working on how NATO could be involved in this war’.

Orban said: ‘Hungary is against it. There is quite a lot of work in the government to determine how we can remain a member of NATO without taking part in the war,’ he said. He added that Brussels is aware of this and has even coined a new term for Hungary, ‘non-participant’.
