In recent years, Serbia has significantly strengthened its energy security by diversifying its energy supply routes.
According to the Balkan bureau of Report, this was stated by Serbia’s Minister for Mining and Energy, Dubravka Jedović-Handanović, at the ‘BELTALKS: Belgrade Economic Dialogues’ conference.
She said that over the past four years, the country had implemented a number of important projects in the energy sector and, despite various geopolitical challenges, there had been no serious problems with energy supply to the public.
The minister added that one of Serbia’s main priorities is to strengthen regional energy links: “In this regard, the country plans to increase the transmission capacity of its electricity interconnectors from approximately 4,000 megawatts to 6,000 megawatts.”
She noted that Serbia has also diversified its gas supply routes in recent years: “At the same time, new projects are being developed aimed at expanding the country’s domestic gas infrastructure and increasing the capacity to transport gas in various directions within the country.”
According to her, significant growth has also been recorded in Serbia’s renewable energy sector: “Installed capacity for solar and wind energy has more than tripled over the last four years – from approximately 400 megawatts to 1.3 gigawatts.”
