Venezuela’s National Assembly has backed the conclusion of an oil deal with the US.
According to Report, citing Reuters, this was announced by the Speaker of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez.
“During an extraordinary session, we discussed issues of vital importance to the country: we unanimously approved a partial reform of the law on the Supreme Court; we endorsed the announcement of a bilateral energy agreement between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the United States of America,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
However, as Telesur points out, parliament did not discuss the text of the agreement, as the governments of Venezuela and the US have not yet submitted an official document.
The deal provides for the US to be granted access to approximately one-fifth of Venezuela’s oil reserves. Under the agreement, the private company North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) will receive a 100-year lease on 17 oil fields.
