South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun is expected to meet with US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer on Friday as part of a meeting of trade ministers of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries. The meeting will be held on the touristy Jeju Island in southern South Korea.
The meeting comes after the two sides held high-level trade consultations in Washington about three weeks ago. At the last meeting, the two sides agreed to reach a comprehensive “package deal” on US tariffs and economic cooperation by July 8. In the upcoming meeting, Minister Ahn is expected to raise the issues of the steps to be taken following the agreement in Washington and the establishment of a more detailed framework that will determine the scope of the negotiations. It is hoped that the talks will provide momentum to the trade negotiations with President Donald Trump’s administration.
