The United States and Saudi Arabia have completed most of the work on bilateral agreements in the field of defence and security.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said in a speech at a special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, the Report reported, citing TASS.

“I think we are very, very close to bilateral agreements between the Kingdom [Saudi Arabia] and the United States. Most of the work has already been done. We have the general outlines of what we think should happen on the Palestinian front,” Faisal bin Farhan said in response to a question about the possibility of a defence agreement.

Reuters had earlier reported that Riyadh was discussing a defence pact with Washington on terms close to Article 5 of NATO’s collective security charter, under which an attack on one member is a declaration of war on all alliance countries. According to the agency’s sources, Saudi Arabia could establish full diplomatic relations with Israel in exchange for security guarantees.
