Azerbaijan FM, Red Cross president discuss peace process with Armenia

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov discussed the International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) humanitarian activities in the region and the peace process with Armenia with the president of the ICRC, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry press service reported.

“During the meeting, it was emphasized that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Committee of the Red Cross is long-term and based on trust, the importance of constant contacts between the parties was noted. The ICRC’s humanitarian activities in the region were discussed, the importance of Azerbaijan’s support for it was emphasized,” the statement said.

The Azerbaijani FM said that against the backdrop of tensions in the region, Baku always adheres to humanitarian principles, including providing humanitarian assistance to Iran during military operations in that country. He also informed the ICRC president about the steps being taken to advance the peace agenda and strengthen mutual trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The ICRC representation in Azerbaijan had ceased its activities in the country in early September last year.
