China and Denmark have reiterated their commitment to enhance political trust and deepen cooperation in various fields, giving new impetus to the development of bilateral relations. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Monday with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, who is on an official visit to Beijing.
Rasmussen’s visit, which started on Saturday and will last until Tuesday, coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark. Denmark is one of the first Western countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China. During the meeting, Minister Wang emphasized that China-Denmark relations have developed steadily and healthily, underpinned by the principle of equality, mutual respect and pursuit of core interests, regardless of the size of countries. Wang reiterated that China respects Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially on Greenland, and expects Denmark to continue to support China’s stance on issues related to sovereignty and territorial integrity. “China is ready to advocate mutual openness with Denmark and give new impetus to practical cooperation through green development,” Wang said, calling for closer cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, scientific research, innovation and green economy. China will maintain a high level of openness, Wang said, adding that China welcomes Danish investors and expects Denmark to provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory investment environment for Chinese enterprises.
