China announced that it aims to further enhance strategic communication and coordination with Pakistan and will continue to play a constructive role to achieve a full-scale and lasting ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar visited China from Monday to Wednesday. Commenting on the visit, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China and Pakistan are “strategic partners under all circumstances” and that the two countries maintain high-level contacts and cooperation in a wide range of fields. “China would like to take this visit as an opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication and coordination, and deepen cooperation in various fields,” Mao said at a daily press conference in Beijing. On May 10, a telephone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Pakistani counterpart Dar reportedly discussed the tensions between Pakistan and India. Asked whether the visit was linked to this tension, Mao said, “India and Pakistan are important neighbors of China. China attaches great importance to both China-India and China-Pakistan relations.”
