Prof. Dr. Mehmet Seyfettin Erol: “In line with the ‘Spirit of Mecca’ and the testament of the ‘Farewell Sermon’, this historical move is the most decisive step taken to prevent artificial conflicts exhausting the region and a potential ‘Islamic Civil War’. In this respect, the pact is an indispensable regional ownership reflex representing the idea of shaping the region’s own resources within a common will to build its own future. The signatures affixed in Mecca send a clear message to the entire world regarding a return to historical codes by removing the mental and strategic shackles of the Sykes-Picot borders imposed 100 years ago. The Islamic world, by taking its place in the strongest possible way in the construction of the new global equation through this new tripod, has declared: ‘I am here too.’ The ‘Mecca Pact’ can also be evaluated as the clearest regional response to global power impositions. In this context, the Islamic world clearly conveys the message that it intends to participate far more strongly in the new international order, including the restructuring process of the UN.”
