China and Kyrgyzstan agreed to promote free trade, safeguard international rules and defend the legitimate rights and regional interests of both countries at a meeting on April 27.
In a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Jeenbek Kulubayev, Chinese Foreign Minister and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang Yi said that the two countries have always maintained relations with trust and sincerity and are solid partners. Wang emphasized that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, relations are developing rapidly. China supports Kyrgyzstan to follow a development path in accordance with its own national conditions and opposes foreign interference, he said. Wang also expressed readiness to work to implement the agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen strategic trust and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Kulubayev noted the new dynamism that emerged from Dzhaparov’s visit to China in February and thanked China for its support to his country. He said that Kyrgyzstan is committed to maintaining close cooperation with China and building a community with a common future. Officials from the two countries also reviewed important projects under the Belt and Road Initiative. They agreed to advance the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, expand trade and economic cooperation, and increase people-to-people contacts.
