Senior Chinese Legislator Visits Belarus

Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, paid an official visit to Belarus from Thursday to Saturday at the invitation of the Belarusian Parliament.

During the visit, Zhang met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, National Assembly Chairwoman Natalya Kochanova, and House of Representatives Chairman Igor Sergeyenko. Zhang and Kochanova also co-chaired the second meeting of the China-Belarus Legislative Cooperation Committee. Zhang emphasized that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the “comprehensive strategic partnership under all circumstances” between China and Belarus continues to develop at a high level. He stated that China is ready to strengthen mutual political support with Belarus, increase contacts between legislative bodies, and deepen cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Belarusian officials, meanwhile, expressed the importance they attach to relations with China, their support for China’s core interests, and their desire to advance practical cooperation between the two countries. The Belarusian side stated that it aims to contribute to the development and revitalization of both countries through the joint implementation of large-scale Belt and Road projects.
