China and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan reaffirmed their unwavering support for each country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders by signing the “Treaty of Permanent Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation” on Tuesday, June 18.
The six countries also emphasized their determination to build a closer “China-Central Asia Community of Shared Future” based on the principle of sovereign equality, mutual respect, and cooperation. In the agreement, all parties stated that they would refrain from the use of force or the threat of force, resolve disputes through peaceful means, and support each country’s development model appropriate to its national conditions. The parties also committed not to join any alliance or group against each other and not to support hostile activities against other countries. The agreement stated that cooperation would be increased on the basis of equality and mutual benefit in areas such as trade, economy, investment, infrastructure connections, engineering and technology, energy (especially hydroelectric and renewable energy), transportation, mining, agriculture, environmental protection, processing industry, science, and technology.
