President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Turkey is ready to mediate to end the recent escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel. The announcement was made following a telephone conversation between Erdoğan and Iranian President Mesud Pezeşkiyan.
Details of the conversation were shared by the Presidency’s Communications Directorate. The statement noted that President Erdoğan had contacted various foreign leaders to prevent the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel. “Our President Erdoğan pointed out that ending the tension between Israel and Iran as soon as possible is of vital importance for regional peace, and stated that Turkey is ready to take on the role of mediator for the peaceful resolution of this process,” the statement said. Erdoğan also emphasized that the situation should be viewed not only at the bilateral level but also within a broader framework, and that the resumption of negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program should also be on the agenda. The President stated that Turkey attaches great importance to the preservation of peace and stability in the Middle East and that all actors in the region should act with a sense of responsibility.
