French President Emmanuel Macron will make an official visit to Greenland on Sunday. During the visit, Macron is expected to meet with Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

According to a statement from the Élysée Palace, the talks will focus on issues such as North Atlantic and Arctic security, combating climate change, energy transition, and strategic mineral resources. It was emphasized that the visit aims to increase cooperation between France and the Arctic region and contribute to strengthening European sovereignty. In his speech at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice on Monday, Macron said, “The deep sea is not for sale, Greenland is not for sale, Antarctica is not for sale.” The visit comes at a time when US President Donald Trump continues to threaten to annex Greenland. Since taking office in January, Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to bring this Arctic region, which has vast natural resources, under US control “in some way.” In an interview in March, he said, “We need Greenland for international security. We must have it.”
