UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to increase defence spending from 14.5 to 15 billion pounds (from 19.2 to 19.8 billion dollars) over the next three years.

According to Report, this is reported by the Financial Times (FT).

An announcement to this effect is expected on 30 June. British media report that Starmer has managed to secure additional funding of up to 13.5 billion pounds for this purpose. However, this level of defence spending was deemed insufficient by former UK Defence Secretary John Healey, who resigned in mid-June.

The article states that the new plan provides for increased investment in drones and other systems, including ground-based unmanned platforms to supply frontline British Army units and evacuate the wounded from the battlefield.

The Financial Times describes Starmer’s drive to increase defence spending as an attempt to bolster his political legacy as Prime Minister.

It should be recalled that on 22 June, the politician announced his intention to resign.
