Gazprom has doubled Russian gas deliveries to Uzbekistan at the request of the Uzbek government, as the country’s winter cold weather conditions were too severe to cope without this support. The decision was announced by the company’s president Alexey Miller at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 26 December. The Russian President’s press service told CentralAsia.News

“In December, frost also arrived in Uzbekistan, and our Uzbek friends and colleagues asked us to increase gas supplies to Uzbekistan in a volume exceeding twice our daily obligations under the signed contract,” Miller said.

Gas imports to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan started on 7 October. The construction of the gas pipeline was ordered by three presidents. The contract for the purchase of blue fuel was signed for two years. According to preliminary estimates, it is planned to purchase about 2.8 billion cubic metres of gas per year.
