Within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Kazakhstan is currently prioritising, above all, issues of transport connectivity, regional security and water resource management, which are of strategic importance to the whole of Central Asia.
“Of course, the economy and trade are areas common to all countries. As far as Kazakhstan is concerned, transport and security are the key priorities at present. Moreover, this applies not only to Kazakhstan but to the whole of Central Asia. I would also add water resources to this list,” he said.
“Because the delivery of goods across the continent is much faster than across the oceans. And Kazakhstan, as a state situated at the heart of Eurasia, is developing transport infrastructure on its territory, acting as a corridor between China and Europe and thereby contributing to the revival of the Great Silk Road,” said D. Kydyrbekuly.
He particularly emphasised that Kazakhstan’s policy within the SCO is one of the pillars of the country’s multi-vector foreign policy. “By leveraging its role as a central economic power and a country with experience in political mediation, Astana is a key player in its interactions not only with the key SCO member states,” noted the political scientist.
