Number of illegal migrants in Ceuta falls to 2,000

Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said that 70,000 out of 72,000 migrants who arrived in Ceuta have returned to Morocco.

Report informs, citing the newspaper El Pais, that, according to the minister, EU countries recognized the effectiveness of the Spanish government’s response during the migration crisis in Ceuta.

Marlaska also said that Spanish intelligence services had not received any reports or warnings about the possibility of similar events occurring again.

EU countries agreed to improve detection and early warning systems following the mass arrival of migrants in Ceuta and expressed solidarity with Spain.

The Spanish government also announced the allocation of an additional €25 million to assist unaccompanied minor migrants in Ceuta.

The death toll from the mass arrival of migrants has risen to 75.
