Senegal and UK sign defence and security cooperation agreement

Senegal and the UK have signed a defence and security cooperation agreement for the first time in the history of bilateral relations.

The Agence de Presse Senegalaise news agency reported.

According to the document, the two countries will establish a joint military commission. Dakar and London agreed to strengthen defence and security ties.

The agreement was signed by Senegalese Minister of Armed Forces El Hadji Oumar Yum and British Deputy Defence Minister James Hippie.

According to the agreement, Senegal and the UK “will work together to strengthen regional security and stability, combat organised crime and drug trafficking in the Gulf of Guinea, and combat instability and terrorism in the Sahel region”.
