US President Donald Trump announced to reporters at the White House that Washington and Kiev will sign an agreement on Ukraine’s mineral resources on April 24.
“Next Thursday (April 24) there will be a minerals agreement. I think they will fulfill the conditions, we will see.” When journalists asked about the details of the agreement, Trump turned to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and said, “I don’t know the details. Scott, what do you say? Where and when will it be signed?” Bessent replied, “We are working on the details, it will probably be on April 26th.” When asked about the scope of the agreement, he said, “Basically, it includes the issues we agreed on before. We had a memorandum of understanding, we are moving directly to a major agreement.” Bessent emphasized the importance of the agreement for Ukraine and expressed confidence that Kiev would sign it. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kiev and Washington could sign a letter of intent on the minerals deal in an online meeting this week. The agreement is expected to cover cooperation in exploiting Ukraine’s rich mineral resources and increasing international investment. It is stated that the development could be an important step for Ukraine’s economic development and diversification of energy resources.
