The leadership of Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee held a meeting with Guido de Sanctis, Italy’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, during which the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of tourism.
Particular attention was paid to trends in tourist exchanges. According to the Uzbek side, around 18,000 Italian citizens visited the country in the first five months of 2026, which indicates a growing interest in Uzbekistan.
The participants in the talks explored opportunities for cooperation in areas such as cultural and creative tourism, the management of World Heritage sites, the development of gastronomic projects and the promotion of new tourist routes.
Measures to create more comfortable conditions for European tourists were also discussed, including attracting well-known Italian hotel chains and restaurant brands to the Uzbek market. The parties identified the launch of direct flights between the two countries by Italian airlines as one of the key factors in increasing tourist numbers.
In addition, the participants touched upon issues relating to the development of the tourism potential of Uzbekistan’s regions. In particular, they discussed the preparation of master plans and long-term strategies for the Fergana Valley, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions, with the involvement of Italian consultancy firms.
