Uzbekistan aims to establish trade and industrial zones on the border with Kyrgyzstan. This step is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries and promoting development in the border regions.
Measures for the socio-economic development of the Fergana region were discussed at a meeting chaired by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on December 3, 2024. It was decided to establish free trade zones in the Fergana region in Basharyk district on the border with Tajikistan and Kuvasay city on the border with Kyrgyzstan. In Basharyk district, the “Andarkhan” trade and logistics center, the construction of which began in March 2023, will cover an area of 5 hectares and include 200 retail outlets, banks, cafes, restaurants, hotels and a logistics center. The center is expected to increase the region’s exports by USD 50 million and create 2,000 new jobs. A similar complex is planned to be built in the city of Kuvasay on the border with Kyrgyzstan. These initiatives aim to promote economic development in border regions and increase trade between the two countries.
