A meeting in Kyiv between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President’s Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner, which lasted around four hours, has concluded.
According to Report’s Eastern European bureau, during a press briefing following the meeting, the Ukrainian leader jokingly remarked that the American delegates had “performed even better than the Patriot systems”, which the Ukrainians have been in dire need of recently.
“At the same time, another key significance of today’s visit by the US President’s representatives is that, thanks to their presence here, Kyiv is not coming under attack,” noted Mr Zelenskyy.
The President of Ukraine noted that, for him, the main success of the talks lay in the outcomes relating to the strengthening of the country’s air defence.
“In 2027, the US will increase production of missiles for the Patriot air defence systems. Ukraine is hoping for an increase in the production of anti-missile weapons. Next year, the US will increase the production of anti-ballistic missiles for the Patriot system. We believe that the war will end in any case, but we will still need them. We are pinning our hopes on such systems to defend our country. Therefore, next year we will increase production volumes. I am absolutely certain of this,” added Zelenskyy.
