Montenegro has closed another chapter in its EU accession negotiations, this time on financial control.

According to the European bureau Report, the 25th meeting of the Conference on Montenegro’s accession to the EU was held today under the chairmanship of Cyprus.

‘A total of 13 chapters have now been provisionally closed, demonstrating the country’s significant and tangible progress towards European integration. Enlargement remains a strategic geopolitical priority for the EU and one of the main areas of focus for the Cypriot Presidency,’ said Marilena Raouna, Cyprus’ Deputy Minister for European Affairs.

It should be noted that Montenegro has closed 13 of 33 negotiation chapters in the EU accession talks.

The country hopes to become a member of the bloc by the end of this decade, as it has made more progress in the negotiation process than other candidates.
