On May 13, Azerbaijani Defense Minister General Zakir Hasanov met in Baku with an official delegation headed by Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler.
As part of the visit, the Turkish delegation visited the graves of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev and prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva at the Honorary Hiyaban and presented wreaths and flowers, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend news agency. The delegation also paid tribute to the martyrs by visiting the Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Memorial Complex built in memory of Turkish martyrs. Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler also laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in the “Zəfər” Park. During the official welcoming ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense, the national anthems of both countries were played, the guard of honor marched past and the guest minister left a commemorative inscription in the “Book of Honor”. Minister Yaşar Güler expressed his pleasure to be in Azerbaijan and thanked for the warm welcome and hospitality. He emphasized the importance of mutual visits and such meetings for strengthening military cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in the military, military-technical and military-training fields, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
