First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva met with the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, who visited Azerbaijan on March 16. During the meeting, the development of relations between the two countries and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed, APA news agency reported.

Welcoming Valentina Matviyenko, Mehriban Aliyeva said that the visit of the Russian delegation will contribute to the development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries at the provincial level. Aliyeva stressed that such contacts are of great importance for deepening bilateral relations and strengthening regional cooperation. Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, thanked Mehriban Aliyeva for the warm welcome and hospitality shown to her. Matviyenko emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation and mutual visits in strengthening friendly relations between the countries. During the meeting, it was emphasized that the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are at the level of a strategic alliance, and the possible actions for further development of bilateral relations in the economic, cultural and humanitarian fields were discussed. In addition to the existing cooperation between the two countries, increasing joint work on regional and international issues was also among the issues discussed.
