On April 23, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Premier Li Qiang of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Joint Statement on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and China, signed in July last year, reflects the high level of relations between the two countries, Trend reported. It was also noted that the Joint Statement on the Establishment of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Relations signed today also reflects the spirit and nature of the relations. It was noted that the upgrade of relations from strategic partnership to comprehensive strategic partnership in a short period of time demonstrates the dynamic development of bilateral relations. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan and China are two friendly countries that actively cooperate in all areas, and it was noted that in addition to political relations, trade and economic cooperation is developing rapidly. It was noted that the trade volume between the two countries increased by 20% last year, reaching 3.7 billion dollars, and in the first three months of this year, trade increased by about 40%. President Aliyev said that China is Azerbaijan’s largest import partner and the fourth largest trading partner. Emphasizing that the Declaration on Strategic Partnership is being successfully implemented in all areas, Aliyev said the two countries are also actively working to strengthen transport and logistics cooperation covering many countries of Eurasia. During the meeting, it was noted that Azerbaijan and China cooperate in international organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and always support each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Azerbaijan has consistently supported China’s “One China” policy. The importance of joint efforts in the fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism was emphasized.
