The European Union is considering replacing the price cap on Russian oil with a ban on maritime transport services as part of the planned 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions.

According to Report, Bloomberg writes about this with reference to sources.

According to the agency, if this measure is supported by EU member states, European companies will be prohibited from providing financial, legal, insurance and other services to any carriers of Russian oil, regardless of its price. It is noted that the support of all members of the bloc is required for the sanctions to be adopted.

As part of the next package of sanctions, the EU is also considering new restrictions against Russian banks and oil companies, as well as financial institutions in other countries that Brussels suspects of circumventing sanctions, Bloomberg writes.

‘The bloc is also considering for the first time the possibility of applying a mechanism to counteract the circumvention of sanctions,’ the publication says.
