Borrel: cable breakage at the bottom of the Baltic Sea was not accidental

The breakage of submarine cables at the bottom of the Baltic Sea was not accidental. This opinion was expressed by European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel in an interview with Cadena SER radio station.

“It was not an accident, just like the undermining of Nord Stream. We need to get used to the fact that this kind of critical infrastructure is very vulnerable,” the Euro-diplomacy chief said.

Earlier, the C-Lion1 telecommunications cable was severed between Germany and Finland. German media blamed the incident on a Russian citizen.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that submarine cables at the bottom of the Baltic Sea could have broken due to many different factors, including wear and tear of equipment.
