President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China will pay an official visit to Russia on May 7-10 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a statement released by the Kremlin Press Service, it was emphasized that the visit is of great importance for further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
As part of the visit, Xi Jinping will attend official commemoration and celebration events in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. President Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping will sign a number of intergovernmental and ministerial cooperation agreements, the Kremlin said. These documents are expected to further the existing cooperation between the two countries in the economic, trade, scientific, technical and cultural fields. Experts point out that this visit has both strong diplomatic and symbolic aspects. The visit is seen as a continuation of the growing political and economic rapprochement between China and Russia in recent years. It also reflects the common position of both countries, which have strained relations with the West, to support a multipolar world order.
