Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated China’s determination to defend the common interests of developing countries and uphold international justice during a series of meetings with senior officials from a number of African countries in Changsha, Hunan province, on Tuesday.
The meetings were held ahead of Wednesday’s Coordinators’ Ministerial Meeting on the implementation of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) Action Plan. During his meeting with Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Wang said he believed the upcoming meeting would further strengthen unity among Global South countries. Wang noted that China is prepared to enhance strategic communication and coordination with Kenya, emphasizing that the two countries can jointly defend the legitimate rights of developing countries and the basic norms of international relations. Mudavadi, meanwhile, expressed his desire to deepen cooperation with China on the basis of mutual benefit and stated that he is confident the meeting will be successful.
