Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Arakchi on Saturday. The conversation focused on recent developments in the Middle East.
Iranian Foreign Minister Arakchi briefed Wang Yi on the latest situation in the region and stressed that the international community should call for an end to Israel’s military operations with one voice. Arakchi thanked China for its continued understanding and support for Iran’s position and expressed his belief that China would play an even more important role in ensuring regional peace and stability. Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, condemned Israel’s actions that violate Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. Wang said that China supports Iran’s efforts to protect its national sovereignty, defend its legitimate rights and interests, and ensure the safety of its people. Wang emphasized that Israel’s attacks targeting Iranian officials and actions causing civilian casualties are in serious violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and the basic norms of international relations.
