Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed China-Somalia relations with Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Muallim Fiqi here on Tuesday.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said China is ready to work with Somalia to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and help Somalia achieve stability and development, stressing that China is willing to further strengthen friendly relations with Somalia and will continue to support Somalia’s sovereignty, security and development.

Somali Foreign Minister Fiqi said that his country adheres to the “One China” policy and supports China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also said that Somalia would like to increase bilateral cooperation with China and develop more joint projects in the fields of economy, trade and infrastructure. China’s zero customs policy, which promotes economic cooperation with African countries, was also among the issues discussed during the meeting.

Wang said China will continue its economic and trade support to Somalia, adding that various mechanisms can be developed to increase the trade volume between the two countries. The Somali side welcomed China’s active participation in the 10 partnership action plan, which aims to jointly push forward modernization and effectively use China’s zero tariff policy for the least developed African countries.
