China’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed recent statements by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India-China relations. Beijing said it is committed to moving bilateral relations forward on a healthy and stable development path.
At a press conference, Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that China and India should support each other to achieve common success. Mao said that a scenario in which “the dragon and the elephant dance together” is the best option for both countries. Mao’s remarks came after Modi painted a hopeful picture of India-China relations in a recent interview with US-based podcaster Lex Fridman. According to the Indian news website Sakshi Post, Modi emphasized the need to prioritize dialogue over conflict and said that strong relations between the two countries are critical not only for India and China but also for global stability. Modi also referred to the deep cultural ties between India and China, likening the differences between the two countries to disagreements within a family, which he said were manageable.
