The Kremlin has issued an official statement on the results of the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. During the meeting, many important issues, especially the Ukraine crisis, were discussed.
During the meeting, the situation around Ukraine was discussed in detail. Putin thanked Trump for his efforts to achieve the goal of ending hostilities and human losses. The Russian President reiterated his commitment to a peaceful settlement of the conflict and expressed readiness to cooperate with the United States for a comprehensive, sustainable solution. However, he underlined that Russia’s security interests must also be taken into account. As part of Trump’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, the Russian side put forward important conditions, including effective control of the ceasefire, the cessation of forced mobilization in Ukraine and the rearmament of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It was also emphasized that there are serious risks due to the Kiev regime’s sabotage of previous agreements. Putin responded positively to Trump’s call to spare the lives of besieged Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region. The Russian side pledged that Ukrainian soldiers who surrender will be treated humanely and in accordance with international law. It was also announced that a 175-person prisoner exchange would take place on March 19 and that 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers would be transferred from Russian medical institutions. Trump called on the parties to refrain from attacks on energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days. Putin welcomed this proposal and immediately gave the necessary instructions to the Russian military. It was also agreed to work on an initiative on transport security in the Black Sea. Detailed negotiations will begin on this issue. Other issues on the international agenda, such as the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea region, were also discussed. The sides agreed to make joint efforts to stabilize crisis regions and prevent nuclear proliferation. This cooperation will improve the general atmosphere of Russia-US relations.
