The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), in collaboration with international financial institutions and investment organisations, is involved in the establishment of the Central Asia and South Caucasus Private Equity Fund (CACPEF), which focuses on investments in promising companies in the region.
According to the EDB’s press office, the participants in the initiative include the China Investment Corporation (CIC), the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), the Reconstruction and Development Fund of the Republic of Uzbekistan (UFRD), the Turkish fund OYAK and the Chinese company Shenwan Hongyuan Securities Co., Ltd. Sovereign wealth funds from Central Asian countries, regional development banks, pension funds and other financial institutions are also being engaged in the initiative.
CACPEF will pool investors’ long-term capital and sector-specific expertise to support companies in Central Asia and the South Caucasus. The fund is expected to help regional businesses attract financing, expand their operations, adopt new technologies, gain expert knowledge and enter international markets.
The initiative’s participants link the fund’s prospects to the deepening of China’s trade and economic ties with countries in the region. In their view, combining financial resources, international investment experience and knowledge of local markets will expand opportunities for implementing investment projects and support industrial development.
