If a competing product that is 80-100 drams cheaper appears on the Armenian market, naturally, they should go, explain to their suppliers, say, ‘We also need to have a cheap price,” and they also should try to optimize their expenses, offer a competitive price, as a result of which our citizen will have 80, 100 or 60 drams cheaper fuel. Minister of economy Gevorg Papoyan on Thursday told this to reporters in front of the government building—and referring to the import of Azerbaijani gasoline to Armenia.

“This will naturally affect the general well-being and competitiveness in general. Look, if diesel fuel became 80 drams cheaper [in Armenia], it means that the tractor plowing the land will spend 20 percent less on diesel fuel,” Papoyan added.

When asked how much fuel is coming from Azerbaijan this time and which companies are importing it, the minister of economy replied: “It seems to be the same companies as last time. Several thousand tons of fuel are coming. And the news is that not only ‘premium’ is coming, but also ‘regular’-type gasoline and diesel fuel is coming. And again it will be up to 80 drams cheaper than the initial market [price]. It will reach Armenia in the coming days. It should not be a shock anymore. The first one is a shock, and now there will be a second one, a fifth one, and a fifteenth one. I will no longer deal with that process, because it is put on rails. The mechanism is with the same logic as the previous one.”
