Germany and France are conducting air force exercises for the first time as part of the agreement reached in March on cooperation in the field of nuclear deterrence.
According to Report, this is reported by the publication *Die Zeit*.
According to the report, during the manoeuvres at Nörwingen Air Base (Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia), two French Rafale fighter jets and two German Eurofighters practised in-flight refuelling as part of the first phase of the exercises.
“The operation in Nörwingen marks the start of the implementation of the nuclear partnership between Germany and France, which (German Chancellor Friedrich) Merz and (French President Emmanuel) Macron agreed upon in early March,” the publication writes.
Later, German and French military personnel will carry out maintenance work on the two countries’ aircraft.
It should be noted that the exercises are taking place ahead of today’s meeting between the German Chancellor and the French President at Bensberg Castle, near Nörwenihe. On 17 July, Merz and Macron will chair a meeting of the Franco-German Defence and Security Council, which will take place at the airbase itself. One of the topics for discussion will be cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear deterrence.
