South Korean President Lee Jae-myung held a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Monday, June 10. According to a statement released by the South Korean Presidential Office, the conversation began at noon local time and lasted approximately 25 minutes.
During the conversation, the two leaders agreed on the need to build stronger and more mature relations between Seoul and Tokyo. The parties expressed their desire to develop cooperation based on mutual understanding and trust. This first contact between the two country leaders signals that diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan may gain momentum in the new period. It was also reported that regional cooperation, economic relations, and security issues were discussed during the conversation.
