South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto agreed to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the economic, technological, and defense fields. According to a statement from the South Korean Presidency, the conversation was the first phone call between the two leaders since Lee took office earlier this month.

The leaders stated that they aim to further advance relations within the framework of the Special Strategic Partnership established in 2017 and reached a consensus on developing strategic cooperation in many areas, including trade, investment, digital transformation, green energy, and the defense industry. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written statement, “The two leaders agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation in many areas, including advanced technology sectors driven by digital and green transformation, trade and investment, and the defense industry.” During the meeting, South Korean President Lee also invited Indonesian President Prabowo to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, this year.
