The Israeli Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the Jewish state has halted arms trade with France.

“Israel is suspending defence trade with France, citing Paris’s hostile stance,” the article states.

According to the publication, Defence Minister Israel Katz and the ministry’s Director-General Amir Baram have officially ordered the suspension of trade; however, such an important decision could not have been taken had it not been a priority for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The actual consequences of this decision are not entirely clear, given that France has boycotted Israeli arms since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas; moreover, according to one source, contracts that have already been signed will be honoured. Nevertheless, the newspaper itself points out that demand for Israeli air defence systems and other defence systems from Israeli manufacturers has risen sharply in Europe in response to new threats following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It is noted that one of the main points of contention between Israel and France has been Paris’s desire to end the war in Gaza as soon as possible. Furthermore, France led a group of countries that recognised the State of Palestine in September 2025, a move which Jerusalem viewed as ‘punishment’ for the continuation of the war.

Furthermore, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barro recently stated that Paris opposes a US and Israeli military operation in Iran.
